Tillandsia ionantha is a staple of most airplant collections.  It is a smaller compact plant with a huge variety of forms.  They like plenty of bright light and can tolerate dry periods.  This is a polular choice for indoor displays.

Before they bloom and in bright light the leaves blush red all over and a bright violet flower will emerge from the centre.  T ionantha pruduces 2-3 pups on flowering and forms beautiful ball shaped clumps in a few seasons.

Medium plants approx 3cm high, Large plants 5cm+ high

Clumps have a previously flowered plant with at least 2 pups.
