Myrmecodia selebicum

R250.00

Myrmecodia is a fascinating genus of plants which forms a symbiotic relationship with ants and fungi.  Hollow tunnels form within the plant’s caudex which provide habitats for any colonies high in the tree canopy in their natural habitat.  The ants provide protection for the plant from other insects as well as their waste products providing nutrients for the plant.

They grow well mounted or in baskets with some sphagnum moss or coconut as a substrate.  They require air circulation around their roots.  They grow well with bright light and like to dry out between waterings.

Myrmecodia selebicum has fine hair like structures on the caudex and pretty blueish flowers.

These plants are all grown from seed in our KZN nursery.

Please note plants do vary, we endeavour to provide a plant as close to the size indicated as possible.
